My ad takes its roots from a skin care product advertisement featuring rapper P. Diddy. It is altered to show celebrities' massive ego presented even more so than it is in the original commercial.

I had a hard time working in AfterFX because of its 'RAM Preview' feature. That ended up making it almost impossible to preview my work in AFX as it took forever to render. The final render for my 50 second piece from AFX had taken over an hour. That doesn't seem right if Final Cut can render it in a few minutes.

For this project, we didn't have full control over our footage, so I decided to go with that. I used to first 5 minutes of footage I recorded and incorporated parts of everything I captured. It developed into a bit of a mess, showing how overwhelming the media can be while jamming things down viewers' throats.

I agree with Tom about the preview problems. I would have liked to make the audio and video more of a unit, but instead they act more as separate entities.

I began with a Barbie movie commercial, which was about Barbie's rainbow utopia. I edited the footage to vaguely represent lesbian Barbies having a child together to live happily ever after. There was two seconds of audio which I used to make a 32 second song for the frolicking Barbies. I used After Effects to multiply the Barbies and make them appear as a couple when there was only one present. The video spirals and mirrors to accompany the audio. After Effects is not an intuitive program and I find the timeline to difficult to work with.

I have turned Ben Gay into Gay. Gay Heat. I took commercials for the products, Advair, Campbells soup, and a PBS commercial and mixed them in with a Ben Gay commercial, edited the sound, and the logo's for Ben Gay.

My video took a "Head On" commercial. Which is famous for repeating the product and it's use 3 times as a commercial. I just played with some effects and did some keying and motion. The idea is how far people will go to sell a product and make money with very little regard to the intelligence of their veiwers. And I just dramatacized their commercial and made it a little bit more truthful.

My commercial is a blend from one of the "Truth" ads and a 1950's PSA announcement. I kept with the same idea as the Truth ad, which is anti-smoking, but I infused bits from the PSA to make smoking sound even more horrible than it already is.

As far as AfterFX, I used it to do some zooming effects as well as a lens flare (which isn't as good as I would have liked).

All in all, I liked this project because it let us manipulate something into another, and I was definently inspired to do more of these on my own time.

My project is an Eharmony dating commercial. I used aftereffects to distort the commercial in a way I feel more accuratelly shows the reliabiity of such online dating services.
