This will be the most technically demanding project of the semester, but once you get through it, you will have learned and executed quite a bit. For this piece you will use multi channeled (dolby 5.1 surround) sound as the centerpiece of a two minute video. The piece is to be presented on dvd. Conceptually, you should strive to create or re-create an environment or situation, which is defined by sound. Other than that, content is pretty open ended.
Guidelines/ Workflow
-edit your video in Final Cut. Export it uncompressed as a QuickTime movie
-create a session in ProTools. Import your video, and it’s original soundtrack (if desired). Import or record any other additional sounds that you want to use.
-using ProTools’ multi track interface, edit and process your discrete “channels” of sound. set the appropriate levels between the channels and export your surround components separately.
-import your uncompressed video and surround audio components into Compressor. Arrange your surround components and designate proper settings for your video and audio exports. Create your Mpeg-2 and AC3 files.
-import these files into DVD Studio Pro for mastering. Create a self starting dvd.
-make sure that you post your comments on the project, including your concept and any other issues in the project 2 thread on http://rutgersmedia.blogspot.com. This is a requirement of the project.
i tried to get a video off youtube for over an hour one night, it seems impossible. But yeah, tape the video off your computer, it probably look great hah
i had difficulty with trying to get the compressor to compress the files properly. it was frustrating but after extensive trial and error i was able to make it work. it's also because my hard drive apparently isn't formatted for mac which is odd because i never plugged it into a pc. it's been working fine all year and until i used it with protools and that's when things went awry. in end i am pleased with the results.

youtube is definitely copy proof....you are only sharing the url for the file. i assume google video is the same.
but i'm definitely against using stuff that was posted online for class projects because it is compressed and looks and sounds like crap!!!

i am dissapointed that certain sounds on my project were not as audible as i had hoped.
