Intermediate Video Assignment 3 Detournment in AFTERFX Due: WED 10/25
If you remember from our screening of Sonic Outlaws, artist Mark Pauline was briefly interviewed and profiled about his work, which consisted of altering the content of billboards in the San Francisco Bay area. This technique, which was rooted in the French situationsim movement of the late 60s, is known as detournment.
Detournment , in this context denotes the alteration of an ad’s content to provide it with new potentially subversive meaning.
In this project, I want you to take an add off of television, an use Adobe Afterfx to change and alter it’s meaning. You will burn your project to a playable dvd AND also export it as a web streamable MP4, which you will burn burn to cd.
Work Flow/ Guidelines
-tape your commercial off of TV. If you don’t have tv, I will set up a miniDV deck to cable in room 326.
-capture your video in final cut .
-import your video and any other files into AfterFX…do your alterations there
-export out of afterFX and use Compressor and DVD Studio Pro to prep you files
also…post your impressions/ problems on the blog.
NOTE: FINAL PROJECT PROPOSALS ARE DUE ON MONDAY 10/23
I'm getting very frustrated because the help file doesn't answer all of my questions. It's taking longer than I thought because I am basically going through "trial and error" to learn the program :(.

there is now a cart with a mini dv deck set up in room 326, which is connected to cable. this will allow you to tape commercials off of tv
i am having a good deal of trouble coming up with an idea for this assignment.
